Retired staff members honored

NEW LONDON — Six retirees were honored at Monday's board of education meeting. They included Yvonne Boswell, intervention specialist; Carla Dearth, middle school teacher; Judy Gahr and Carolyn Hamilton, elementary teachers; and Suzanna Montgomery and Gail Ux, paraprofessionals. Each received a plaque and a Golden Pass to all school activities. Hamilton and Ux were also chosen Golden Apple recipients by their peers for their service to the district. The board hired Jessica Gerhardinger as a preschool teacher and Brenna Suhr as a third grade teacher. A large number of supplemental contracts were approved, as were certified and classified staff renewals and administrative contract renewals for Eric Yetter, principal, and Tom Howell, student athletics director and dean of students. The board approved a shared service agreement with Mapleton Local Schools for superintendent services Aug. 1 through Sept. 30. After approving school fees, the board agreed to a donation agreement with Kent HoldCo. for the donation of building and lands used by Kent Sporting Goods, which is contiguous with school property. Fisher Titus Medical Center has scheduled a Day of Movement on school grounds for June 5, with details to be released later. Superintendent Brad Romano reported Lorain County Community College educated 28 members of the Class of 2016, which added up to 670 college credits. Other institutions including Ashland University, Firelands BGSU and others also offer classes to students.
