Norwalk holds off Columbian for Lake win

TIFFIN — The Norwalk baseball team survived a furious rally by host Tiffin Columbian to win a rescheduled SBC Lake Division game by an 11-10 score on Wednesday. Norwalk (14-7, 7-2) led 11-2 after the top of the sixth inning, but the Tornadoes scored eight times in the bottom of the sixth to get within a run. Columbian then had runners at first and second with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Carter Harp got a fielder's choice and a strikeout to secure the victory. Caiden Wilson finished 2 for 3 with a double and drove in four runs for the Truckers. Wesley Sure was 2 for 3 with a double and one RBI, while Kaedyn Warner was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Also for Norwalk, Landon Ferkel, Nate King, and Canyon Craig each finished with a base hit and an RBI. Noah Helton started and went the first five innings to earn the pitching win. He allowed two unearned runs on two hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Harp pitched a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts. Norwalk will finish out SBC Lake play on Friday at Bellevue (12-6, 6-3) before awaiting the Columbian-Lexington winner in a Division III sectional title game on May 21 at NHS. King allowed an unearned run on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk over seven innings. He needed just 81 pitches (54 strikes). At the plate, Lex Grose hit a grand slam home run in the top of the fourth inning. Lincoln Distl finished 3 for 4 and scored on the home run, while Keegan Beverly singled with an RBI, and Jarrett Burrer doubled with an RBI. Troy Ayers, Kaden Blair, and Justin Gillum each had base hits for South Central (8-11, 8-5). Owen Price finished 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs and earned the pitching win for Edison. He went 4 2/3 innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on three hits with three strikeouts and seven walks. Also for the Chargers, Tristan Wetherill was 2 for 5 with four RBIs, while Brody McFadden and Ian Preston (double) each had two hits and two RBIs. Bryson Wittmer and Cole Leimeister each added two hits as well. Edison heads to Perkins on Thursday and hosts Tiffin Calvert on Friday in a pair of non-league tests.
