Lexington edges Norwalk for sectional title

LEXINGTON — The Norwalk softball team came up a run short in a 2-1 loss to host Lexington in a Division III sectional championship game on Wednesday. Lexington (13-9) took a 1-0 lead when a runner scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. The Truckers (12-10) tied the game in the top of the fifth. Caymen Mercer walked and advanced to second base on a ground out. Saige Viock then took a 2-2 pitch to left for an RBI double to knot the score at 1-1. But in the bottom half of the sixth, Lexington scored on a bases-loaded walk to regain the lead. The Truckers had the tying run on second base when the game ended. Viock took the loss despite allowing one hit over six innings. She struck out three and walked five. Viock was also 2 for 3 at the plate. Maddie Gamble and Audryn Ott each had a double, while Alexis Dellisanti and Lola Schlotterer each had singles. After a 4-9 start, the Truckers won eight straight games to post their third straight winning season. V after beating the Redskins for a third time this season in Wednesday's sectional title game. Abby Cloud went all seven innings in the circle for Edison, which will face Eastwood (20-4) in the district round next Tuesday in Clyde. She allowed two earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks. At the plate for Edison, Cloud had two hits, while Natalie Desautels singled and drove in two runs. Peyton Bissell doubled and scored twice, while Macari Harris had an RBI, and Adyson Wechter scored two runs. The Chargers have a non-league test on Friday at Keystone (18-5) and need to beat Huron on Monday to clinch a share of the SBC Bay Division title. P. V sectional title game on Wednesday. Natalie Slone finished 2 for 2 with a solo home run and a double in the defeat. Emma Steinmetz also had a double, while Ava Deel and Kenley Bond each singled. Willard will close out its season with an SBC Bay game at home Thursday against Vermilion, followed by a non-league game Saturday at Vanlue. Central 2, Plymouth 1 GREENWICH — The Trojans held off the Big Red late for a Firelands Conference win at home on Wednesday. Zaida Myers finished 3 for 3 with the lone RBI for South Central (7-12, 3-8). Mayson Middaugh and Viola Culler each added two hits, while Claire Howell singled and scored one of the two runs. Myers went the first 3 1/3 innings and didn't allow a run on two hits with a strikeout. Culler went the final 3 2/3 innings and allowed an earned run on three hits with three strikeouts. For Plymouth (2-20, 0-13), Karsyn Steele-Adkins singled with an RBI, while Taylor Dean had two hits. Madison Montgomery allowed two earned runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts in six innings.
