Norwalk ends regular season with 10th win

NORWALK — The Norwalk boys tennis team closed out the regular season on Monday with a 5-0 sweep over visiting Tiffin Calvert at the Middle School tennis courts. The Truckers finished 10-7 overall and 8-2 in the SBC Lake Division this season. The program has won 10 or more matches in eight of the past 12 years. Norwalk and the remaining Sandusky Bay Conference Lake and Bay Division teams will shift to the newly formed Northern Ohio Conference next school year. In eight seasons in the Lake Division, the Truckers went 70-22 in league matches with two Lake titles and three runner-up finishes. In Monday's win, Jeremiah McCreary did not drop a game at first singles in a win over Liam Herbert (6-0, 6-0). Edward Ramos Cruz beat Hannah Spaun (6-0, 6-1) at second singles, and Roman Snyder beat Emma Marben (6-1, 6-1) at third singles. The first doubles team of Jack Pittenger and Jacob Burger beat Owen Link and Dante Fabrizio (6-1, 6-3). At second doubles, Andrew Klett and Carter Swick topped Liam Schumm and Drew Meyer in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, and 10-5. The Truckers open Division I sectional tournament play on Thursday at Fremont Ross. McCreary will remain in singles, while three teams of Ramos Cruz and Snyder; Burger and Swick; and Levi Dickerson and Pittenger will play doubles.
