NMS girls win SBC Lake title

PORT CLINTON — The Norwalk Middle School competed in the Sandusky Bay Conference Championships on May 9 at True-Lay Stadium in Port Clinton. The NMS girls' team won the final Lake Division title, while the boys placed fifth. The girls scored 191 points to finish well ahead of Sandusky (163) and Columbian (160). Londynn Clifton won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.7 seconds and placed second in the 200 hurdles in 32.5 seconds to pace the NMS girls. Layla Koch was second in both the 800 (2:30.2) and the 1600 (5:49.2), while Evi Stowers was second in the 200 (29.6), and Kayla Naseman was second in the 400 (1:05.6). Lillian Kipp was second in the shot put (36 feet, 3.5 inches) and third in the discus (87 feet, 7 inches) and qualified for the state championships this weekend in both events. In relays, the 4x400 team of Brynn Sellers, Adelinn Sitterly, Addison Hance, and Naseman set a new program record in a time of 4:27.99 to place second. The 4x800 also took second in 10:33.7. The team of Sitterly, Harper Gilbert, Koch, and Sellers will also be registered for state. The 4x100 relay of Liv Darovich, Kaili Oates, Stowers, and Clifton also took second in 54.7 seconds. Finishing in third for the NMS girls were Sellers in the 800 (2:31.4) and Harper Gilbert in the high jump (4 feet, 2 inches). Placing fourth included Hance in the 200 hurdles (34.4) and Sitterly in the 1600 (5:50.8). Laney Schlotterer in the high jump (4 feet, 2 inches), Stella Kipp in the discus (81 feet, 6 inches), Olivia Roth in the pole vault (6 feet), and Ella Ames in the long jump (13 feet, 2.75 inches) also each placed fourth. For the NMS boys, the 4x400 relay of Caleb Cross, Carter Pelton, Brysen Risner, and Zane Daniels placed second in 3:48.77. The time is a program record and also qualified the team for state. The team broke the program mark three times this spring. Cross was also second in the 400 (55.4), and Daniels (56.3) was fourth. Sellers finished third in the 1600 (5:22.2), as did Risner in the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches). The 4x800 team of Parker Good, Drew Hamernik, Ethan Jones, and Sellers finished in third in 10:06.1. "It was a successful season with many school records broken," NMS head coach Dave Daniels said. BAY DIVISION Edison boys second In the Bay Division, the Berlin-Milan boys team scored 183 points to place second behind host Port Clinton (239). Max Baker won the 400 (57.9) for Berlin-Milan, along with the 4x800 relay team of Maxim Johnson, Landon Capizzi, Zeke Rutger, and Austin Jones in 10:08.3. Liam Butler was second in both the 110 hurdles (17.7) and the 200 hurdles (27.7), while Kris Raymore was second in the long jump (16 feet, 7.25 inches). Also placing second was the 4x200 relay of Dominic Shelley, Raymore, Cooper Scheaffer, and Butler in 1:44.2. The 4x400 of Ty Nickle, Scheaffer, Baker, and Austin Quillen also took second (4:07.5), and the 4x100 of Shelley, Scheaffer, Raymore, and Jude Morrow placed third in 50.5. Coltin Hohler was third in the 200 (26.2), as was Rutger in the 800 (2:23.9). Placing fourth for the Berlin-Milan boys included Baker in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches), Hohler in the long jump (16 feet, 2.25 inches), and Dylan Gale in the 110 hurdles (19.9). On the girls' side, the Berlin-Milan 4x800 relay of Addison McDonnell, Madison Moon, Penny Stoll, and Jillian Chase won in 11:18.4. McDonnell was second in the 1600 (5:56.1), while Delaney Marshall in the discus (81 feet, 3 inches) and Reese Wells in the high jump (4 feet, 4 inches) also both placed second. Saxon O'Neal was third in both the 100 hurdles (19.4) and 200 hurdles (34.6), while August Hines in the shot put (31 feet, 1 inch) and Evelyn Grady in the long jump (12 feet, 11.75 inches) each placed fourth. For the Willard boys, the 4x400 relay of Bryan Schaffer, Bentley Beck, Micah Winans, and Keyden Smith won in 4:04.5. Schaffer was second in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches), and Smith was third in the 400 (59.3), as was Jacob Stevens in the shot put (35 feet, 11 inches). Placing fourth included Elias Batrez in the 200 hurdles (30.6), Griffin Buurma in the shot put (35 feet, 9.75 inches), and Jayden Stevens in the discus (111 feet, 4 inches). In relays, the 4x100 team of Cesar Matos, Batrez, Braydon Darson, and Schaffer took fourth in 51 seconds. The 4x200 team of Cayden Walton, Israel Moreno, Oliver Hale, and Jimmy Andrade also took fourth in 1:47.8. The Willard girls' 4x800 relay of Mile Branham, Vera Branham, Mahi Patel, and Savanah Harvey also placed fourth (12:10.5). The OHSAA junior high state track and field meet begins with field events at 9 a.m. this Saturday at Hilliard Darby High School. Running events begin at 1 p.m.
