Four teams to host sectional title games

Four area teams will host sectional championship games, and two others have byes into district semifinal matchups as the OHSAA statewide baseball tournament brackets were finalized on May 10. In Division III, Norwalk (13-6) is a No. 2 seed and will be very familiar with its opponent in a sectional title game at 5 p.m. on May 21 at NHS. The Truckers await the winner between Tiffin Columbian (4-11) and Lexington (12-8), who play on May 19. Norwalk was scheduled to visit the Minutemen in a non-league game on Monday and head to Tiffin to face the Tornadoes on Wednesday. The Truckers beat the Tornadoes in the first meeting, 6-2, on May 4 in Norwalk. On April 6, the Tornadoes won 7-3 at Lexington. The winner of Norwalk's sectional title game advances to a district semifinal at 2 p.m. on May 26 at Tiffin University against the winner of Wapakoneta (9-5) and Mansfield Madison (8-12). The bottom half of the bracket features Toledo Rogers (6-15) at Sylvania Southview (12-6) and Toledo Central Catholic (7-16) at Fremont Ross (10-9). Those two winners meet in the other district semifinal, also at 2 p.m. on May 26 at Oak Harbor. The district title game is set for 5 p.m. on May 28 back at Tiffin University. In Div. V, state-ranked No. 9 Edison (13-3) has a bye to a district semifinal at 2 p.m. on May 28 in Fremont. Edison awaits the winner between Genoa (8-11) and Huron (10-8). During the regular season, the Chargers beat the Tigers by scores of 7-0 and 5-1. The other half of the bracket plays into a district semifinal at 4:30 p.m. on May 28 in Defiance. The two winners from Ottawa Hills (7-8) and Sherwood Fairview (15-4), and Liberty Center (11-8) and Defiance Tinora (12-3) will meet in that game. The district title game shifts back to Fremont at 2 p.m. on May 30. At the Div. V Bluffton University district, Willard (3-14) heads to Oak Harbor (15-7) in a 2 p.m. sectional title game on May 23. That winner faces the third meeting between Port Clinton (5-14) and Margaretta (15-5) in a district semifinal at 4:30 p.m. on May 28 at Fremont. The district title game shifts back to Bluffton at 2 p.m. on May 30 against either Eastwood (8-9), Spencerville (7-8), or Coldwater (17-2). Monroeville (11-7) will host Mansfield Christian (1-11) in a sectional title game at 2 p.m. May 23 in Div. VI. The two teams were scheduled to play on April 10, but it was rained out and not made up. Should the Eagles win, they get a third meeting with the winner of New London (7-11) at Crestview (8-7) in a 4:30 p.m. district semifinal on May 27 at Shelby. The Cougars defeated the Wildcats by scores of 6-5 and 10-0 on April 20-21. Meanwhile, Monroeville and Crestview split two games on April 13-14, and the Eagles won at New London, 20-7, on May 4 before the game the next day was rained out. On the other side of the bracket, Riverdale (5-14) visits Carey (19-2), and Woodmore (12-8) heads to state No. 15 Seneca East (11-4). Those two winners then meet at 2 p.m. May 27 in a district semifinal in Findlay. The district title game shifts back to Findlay at 5 p.m. on May 29. Also in Div. VI, Western Reserve (8-8) is in the Shelby district and visits Bucyrus Wynford (9-9) at 2 p.m. May 23 in a sectional final. The winner faces either Colonel Crawford (11-7) or Bucyrus (4-16) at 2 p.m. on May 27 in a district semifinal at Shelby. The other half of that bracket features Ada (7-12) against St. Henry (16-2) and Lima Perry (9-5) at Rockford Parkway (8-14). The two winners meet at 4:30 p.m. in a district semifinal on May 27 at Upper Scioto Valley. The district title game at Shelby is set for 5 p.m. on May 29. In Div. VII, No. 3-ranked St. Paul (15-2) will host Old Fort (4-15) in a sectional title game at 5 p.m. on May 21 at Contractors Park. Opposite that game, Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic (5-15) heads to Sandusky to take on St. Mary Central Catholic (11-4). The Panthers beat SJCC in their first SBC River meeting, 13-1. The two teams were slated to play again on Monday. The two winners face off in a district semifinal at 2 p.m. May 28 at Lions Park in Castalia. The Flyers beat the Crimson Streaks, 6-1, on April 18 in Norwalk. The yearly meeting with the Panthers was canceled because of weather on March 31 and was not made up. The bottom half of the district has Vanlue (0-15) at New Riegel (8-10) and Cory-Rawson (4-12) at Arcadia (8-11). Those two winners meet at 4:30 p.m. on May 28 in a district semifinal at Findlay. The district title game returns to Lions Park in Castalia at 2 p.m. on May 30. In the Galion district, South Central (8-9) has a bye into a district semifinal at 2 p.m. at Galion on May 28. The Trojans await the winner between Buckeye Central (4-15) and Lucas (7-6), who meet in a sectional title game on May 22. Lucas claimed a 6-3 win at South Central on April 10. The Trojans and Bucks were supposed to play on April 16, but it was rained out. The other half of the bracket has Oregon Cardinal Stritch (5-9) visiting state No. 1 Tiffin Calvert (15-1), and Danbury (9-8) going to Gibsonburg (8-8). Those two winners match up in a district semifinal at 4:30 p.m. on May 28 in Castalia. The district title game then returns to Galion at 2 p.m. on May 30. Plymouth (10-8) is a No. 3 seed in the Elida district and entertains Crestline (5-13) at 5 p.m. May 22 in a sectional title game. Opposite that matchup is No. 4 Mohawk (8-11) at No. 2 Mt. Victory Ridgemont (10-7). The two winners meet at 4:30 p.m. May 28 in a district semifinal at Galion.
