St. Paul girls win Bob Knoll Invite

NEW LONDON — Six of the eight teams from the Firelands Conference got their annual preview of next week's conference championship track and field meet on Friday at the New London Bob Knoll Invitational. The lone FC teams not in the 10-team field were Crestview and Mapleton. St. Paul won the girls' meet with 144.5 points. South Central (126.5) was second, followed by Western Reserve (80), Monroeville (60), and host New London (50). Bucyrus won the boys' meet with 115.5 points, ahead of runner-up Western Reserve (100). Wellington was third with 90 points, just one point better than host New London (89). Plymouth (66.5) finished fifth. The Flyer girls won six of the 16 contested events. The pole vault was not contested in the girls' meet scoring because of the weather. Freshman Deanna Vazquez won the 200-meter dash in 27.4 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 1:03.7. She anchored two relay teams that also finished in first place. Kate Ware also won the 3200 in 13:33.4 for St. Paul. In relays, the 4x200 of Kira Sandor, Brooklyn Cassidy, Aubrie Bogard, and Vazquez won in 1:51.4. The 4x400 of Frances Donnelly, Bogard, Amelia Stoll, and Vazquez took first in 4:25.3. Also, the 4x800 relay of Jenny Schwan, Donnelly, Kennedie Frazee, and Ware won in 11:06.57. The Flyers also had six second-place finishes, including Stoll in the 100 (13.5) and 200 (27.9). Donnelly was second in the 400 (1:08.3), as was Scarlett Ross in the 300 hurdles (54.8). Isabelle Rizzo was second in the discus throw (99 feet, 6 inches). The 4x100 relay of Aubrie Van Dresser, Cassidy, Stoll, and Sandor also took second in 54.5 seconds. In field events, Bogard was third in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches), as was Jessica Matlack in the discus (87 feet, 1 inch). Rizzo was also fourth in the shot put (29 feet, 10 inches). For South Central, Autumn Fry again had a big day. She won the 100 (13.2), the shot put (34 feet, 11.75 inches), the discus (119 feet, 10 inches), and anchored the 4x100 relay (54.1) to a win along with Emily Lamoreaux, Kaili Ingram, and Falynn Schumacher. Lamoreaux won both the 100 hurdles (17.4) and 300 hurdles (51.6), and Lauren Ingram had the best effort in the high jump (five feet). Placing second for the Trojans was Kaili Ingram in the 100 hurdles (18.5) and long jump (15 feet, 1.5 inches). She was also third in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches). Adelynn Smith was third in the 3200 (14:26.7) for the Trojans, as was Alexis Hoover in the 300 hurdles (57.2) and Kenlea Blair in the shot put (30 feet, 7 inches). Lauren Ingram was fourth in the long jump (14 feet, 8 inches). Western Reserve had five second-place finishes, including Kara Woodruff in the 800 (2:29.3), Imani Bizzell in the shot put (31 feet, 2.75 inches), and Audree Jackson in the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches). In relays, Maddy Loyer, Frankie Hoover, Ally Goebbel, and Woodruff were second in the 4x200 (1:55.6), as were Hoover, Woodruff, Goebbel, and Korissa Fraelich in the 4x400 (4:28.6). Placing third for the Roughriders was the 4x100 of Fraelich, Audree Jackson, Aubree Zunis, and Loyer in 55.7 seconds, while Fraelich was third in the 400 (1:08.6) and Goebbel was fourth (1:09.5). Loyer was also fourth in the 200 (29.2), and Leigha Osborne was also fourth in the 300 hurdles (1:00.8). Sophia Stieber won the long jump for Monroeville at 15 feet, 2.5 inches. Teammate Payton Weilnau was third in the same event (15 feet, 1 inch), while Kara Gerber was third (14.6) in the 100, and Kiahna Smith (14.8) was fourth. In relays, Gerber, Smith, Stieber, and Weilnau placed fourth in both the 4x100 (55.9) and the 4x200 (1:57.5). The 4x400 of Scarlett Shupe, Kenley Schafer, Smith, and Gerber also placed fourth (4:58.3). For host New London, the 4x800 of Valery Henry, Paiton Shepherd, Lydia Geist, and Hailey Crockett finished second (11:26.5). Kira Waugaman in the 200 (28.6) and Henry in the 800 (2:35.1) each placed third. Also placing third for NL was the 4x200 of Lillian Denbow, Raeann Mitchell, Waugaman, and Henry (1:57.3) and the 4x400 of Crockett, Waugaman, Mitchell, and Henry in 4:37.3. Crockett was also fourth in the 1600 (6:08.99). For Plymouth, Morgan Follett was second in the 1600 (5:54.1). She joined Aly Lewis, Mya Stine, and Audrey Smith to place third in the 4x800 relay (11:55.7). BOYS Keith dominates field events Western Reserve standout thrower Hayden Keith again easily won the discus and shot put events. Keith went 55 feet, 6.25 inches in the shot put and 160 feet, 11 inches in the discus. He won the shot put by more than six feet and the discus by over 45 feet. Also for Western, Chase Hipp won the high jump (six feet), and the 4x100 relay of Xzavian Meagrow, Hipp, Ben Woodrum, and Colton Meagrow took first in 45.9 seconds. Woodrum was second in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches), and Colton Meagrow was third in the 200 (24.4). Placing fourth for the Roughriders was Travis French in the shot put (45 feet, 11 inches), and the 4x200 relay team of Lucas Summerfield, Peyton Kerby, Brexton Fraelich, and Dom Edwards (1:38.8). New London's 4x800 relay of Ryan Twining, Garret Carruthers, Trace Landis, and Carter Hicks won the event in 8:49.9. Twining also won the 800 in 2:04.4, while Hicks was second in the 3200 (10:18.1), and Landis was fourth (11:45.3). Jackson Mitchell in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches) and Jayden Bracken in the pole vault (12 feet, 6 inches) also took second for the Wildcats. Tate Mitchell was third in the pole vault (12 feet), as was Carruthers in the 400 (55.3). Plymouth's Izaya Reynolds won the 100 (23.5) and 400 (51.8), and Isaiah Miller won the 110 hurdles (16.2). They both teamed with Jeric Tackett and Trevor Putt to win the 4x200 (1:35.6) and with Cainan Kilgore and Tackett to win the 4x400 in 3:40.5. For Monroeville, Brycen Dunlap was second in the shot put (49 feet, 11 inches) and the discus (125 feet, 5 inches), and Chase Horn also finished second in the 100 (12.1). St. Paul's Adam Dowdell was second in the 800 (2:05.6) and teamed with Kade Houck, Nick Pocos, and Joey Alt to place second in the 4x400 (3:41.6). Levi Rospert, Alt, Wyatt Houser, and Pocos placed third in the 4x200 (1:37.3), while Rospert was third in the 100 (12.1). Placing fourth for the Flyers included Alt in the 200 (24.5) and Houck in the 400 (56.2). The 4x100 team of Abel Couch, Pocos, Rospert, and Houser also placed fourth in 49.8 seconds. South Central's Luke Kilgore was fourth in the 300 hurdles (44.8) and the pole vault (10 feet), as was Tanner Back in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches). All six teams, along with Crestview and Mapleton, will return to New London on Wednesday and Friday for the FC championship meet. Action begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday with the girls discus and high jump, and the boys pole vault, shot put, and long jump finals.
