Memorial Day parade to return

Editor's note: Memorial Day is observed this year on Monday, May 25. NORWALK — The community is invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude at the Annual Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Ceremony in Norwalk, honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. The day's events will begin with the parade assembling at 9:30 a.m. in the City Services parking lot on Woodlawn Avenue. The parade will step off promptly at 10 a.m., proceeding to Woodlawn Cemetery for the official memorial ceremony. U.S. Army Retired Major Keven Deeter will serve as this year's Guest Speaker, offering remarks to commemorate the sacrifice and legacy of America's fallen heroes. In observance of Memorial Day, the large flag at the VFW will be lowered to half-staff at 7 a.m. Parade participants are invited to stop by the VFW Hall between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., where the VFW Auxiliary will provide coffee and donuts. Families are encouraged to take part in this year's celebration by having children decorate their bicycles in red, white, and blue and ride in the parade. This special addition will help kick off the celebration of America's upcoming 250th birthday. This year's parade will feature the St. Paul's Flyers Band, bringing music and patriotic spirit to the procession. The memorial ceremony at Woodlawn Cemetery will include: • Guest speaker remarks • A wreath placement ceremony • The traditional Mound Ceremony • A ceremonial gun salute Following the ceremony, the American Legion Auxiliary will host a luncheon at American Legion Post 41, welcoming all attendees to gather in fellowship and reflection. Community members are encouraged to attend and participate in this meaningful day of remembrance as Norwalk honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
