BW's Kiesel defends OAC shot put title

NEW CONCORD — Baldwin Wallace University senior Mason Kiesel, a 2021 South Central graduate, defended his Ohio Athletic Conference championship in the shot put on May 1 at Muskingum University. Kiesel helped the Yellow Jackets place third as a team by throwing 53 feet, 3.75 inches. That was better than the second-place effort by Mount Union's Ryan McVicker (52 feet, 8.75 inches). The All-OAC champion also moved up from 10th place to finish fourth with a personal-best toss of 158 feet, 8 inches in the hammer throw competition. His teammate, Kitar Olsen, won the event at 175 feet, 5 inches. Kiesel was All-Ohio over the winter in the shot put at the NCAA Division III indoor championships. Last season, Kiesel was also second at the All-Ohio Indoor meet and earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. He also earned academic recognition in 2023 and 2024 and was an OAC Field Athlete of the Week in 2022. The NCAA Division III outdoor championships will be held in La Crosse, Wisc. on May 21-23. JUNIOR HIGH Trojans compete in Murray Invitational OLIVESBURG — The South Central junior high track and field team was in action on April 29 at the John Murray Invitational held at Crestview's Scott Bailey Field. Isaac Lamoreaux won the 110-meter hurdles (17.2 seconds) and the 200 dash (27.9) and finished second in the long jump (17 feet, 1 inch). Rodrigo Lopez was fourth in the 800 (2:35.5) and the 1600 (5:35.5) and was fifth along with Carson Honeycutt, Arturo Larios-Chavez, and Christopher Seamon in the 4x800 relay (11:06.3). Placing third was the 4x100 relay of Case Codeluppi, Kason Lucal, Honeycutt, and Dalton Knoll in 57.7. In the shot put, Luke Albright finished fifth (31 feet, 8 inches), and Dom Codeluppi (30 feet, 11 inches) was sixth. Albright was sixth in the discus (93 feet 10 inches), and Codeluppi (92 feet 8 inches) was seventh.
