Norwalk walks off Bellevue for sixth straight

NORWALK — The Norwalk softball team rallied from behind in the sixth inning, then topped visiting Bellevue in walk-off fashion for a 4-3 SBC Lake win on Monday. The game was suspended with Bellevue leading 3-2 with a runner at third base and two outs in the top of the fifth inning on April 22. When the game resumed, the Truckers got a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the sixth from Maddie Gamble to tie the game. Tied at 3-3 in the seventh, Reagan Mooney reached on an error and was advanced to third with two outs. She then scored the winning run on an error at third base to lift Norwalk (10-9, 6-2) to its sixth straight win and the seventh in the last eight games. Sophia Ames pitched a complete game for the Truckers. She allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and five walks. The junior catcher finished 2 for 4 with a two-run home run, while Bella Guerra was 2 for 4 with a double and also drove in two, and Kegney Stoll was 2 for 4 and had three RBIs. Also for the Flyers (12-7, 7-3), Payton Preston was 2 for 5 with a solo home run, and Mallorie Sowers was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Ryleigh Mansfield-Bush and Addy Rospert each added two hits. Taylor Scheid singled and had two RBIs, while Payton Weilnau and Brooke Morman each singled with an RBI. Weilnau went all five innings for the win. She allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks. For New London (8-11, 4-6), Gracie Thomas hit a solo home run, and Olivia Yetter singled.
