Perkins Fire has new logo

PERKINS TWP. — The Perkins Township Fire Department has a new logo that fire leaders say honors the department's past. The department unveiled its new logo this past week on its Facebook page. Provided image/PERKINS TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT Chief Dave Murphy said for the past year, firefighters have been submitting and voting on different proposed re-designs for the department's patch. "It really was a long and involved process, going back and forth on designs and votes," Murphy said. Firefighter Dan Yost played a big role in designing the final version the department selected as its new patch, he said. The blue and red Maltese cross in the center of the new logo resembles the department's old patch, down to the gold letters. The new patch also lists "1953," the year the fire department was founded, and adds the flags of the United States and Ohio. "We're trying to pay homage to the past but also move forward into the future as well," Murphy said. The motto on the patch, "Pride, Performance, Professionalism," harkens to core values established by former Perkins Fire Chief Rick Ennis, Murphy said. "It's what we try to live by," he said. The red and black on the edge of the patch is also a nod to the colors of the Perkins Local School District, Murphy said. The new logo will appear on their vehicles in the future, Murphy said, but it will soon be featured on the uniforms firefighters wear to formal events.
