Students must 'make good decisions'

NORWALK — Ahead of Norwalk High School's prom Saturday, local first responders assisted in a mock crash demonstration. The staged incident for high school students is meant to highlight the dangers of driving while impaired or distracted. The Norwalk Firefighters Local 1199, who took part in the demonstration, shared a message and photos from the event online: Norwalk Fire assisted with a mock crash (Thursday) presented by NHS students. The mock crash is a staged incident designed to show students the consequences of impaired and distracted driving. Students were able to witness their peers simulate the results of a motor vehicle collision, including serious injuries, arrest, and even death — all of which are very real and plausible outcomes of impaired or distracted driving. They also saw how first responders mitigate these incidents and the complexity involved in handling them. We wish all local students a safe and enjoyable prom weekend. We hope this demonstration was beneficial and encourages students to make good decisions — not just during prom, but every time they get behind the wheel.
