Norwalk hands Clyde first Lake loss

CLYDE — The Norwalk softball team held off a late rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to upset Clyde with a 7-5 SBC Lake softball win under the lights Wednesday night. With the win, the Truckers won their fourth straight game overall and for the fifth time in their last six games to improve to 8-9 overall and 4-2 in the Lake. Clyde fell to 8-7 overall and 4-1 in the Lake, making it a one-game deficit with four remaining. The Fliers had defeated the Truckers, 18-3, in six innings, in a game that started on April 10 and finished on April 24. In Wednesday's win, Norwalk scored five times in the top of the fourth inning. Scarlet Schneider and Alexis Dellisanti each singled around a walk drawn by Audryn Ott to load the bases with no outs. Caymen Mercer then hit a ball that was misplaced to score two runs, and then another error by the Fliers on the infield off a ball hit by Sophia Ames gave Norwalk a 3-2 lead. With two outs, Reagan Mooney then delivered a two-run single to push the lead to 5-2. In the seventh, Schneider singled and scored on another error by the Fliers, then Mercer hit an RBI double to score another run for a 7-2 lead. However, the Fliers had the bases loaded with two outs and had scored twice in the bottom half of the seventh. Down to their final out, Clyde drew two straight walks off Saige Viock before the pitcher got a strikeout to end the game. Viock went 6 1/3 innings and allowed five runs (one earned) on three hits. At first singles, Jeremiah McCreary lost the first set 6-4 to Fremont's Charlie Kramer, then won the second set, 6-3. He was winning the third set 4-3 before play was suspended. Norwalk got the win at second singles, as Roman Snyder beat Chase Culbertson 6-3, 7-6 (3). Jacob Burger lost at third singles to Carson Lewis, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-2. The first doubles team of Edward Ramos and Jack Pittenger lost to Jack Swinehart and Brandon Fry (6-0, 6-1). The No. 2 doubles of Levi Dickerson and Carter Swick fell to Logan Wensinger and Caden Schwochow (6-2, 6-4).
