Retired teachers' group hosting meetng

Retired teachers of Huron County and other retired teachers living in our area are invited to the May 14, 2026, HCRTA (Huron County Retired Teacher Association) meeting at Collins Methodist Church, 11 a.m., 4290 Hartland Center Road, Collins, Ohio 44826, for a great luncheon of lasagna, Caesar salad, garlic bread, coffee, tea, drinks and dessert. Cost is $15, call Johanna Beebe to reserve a spot, 419-566-3490. Jim Van Sickle will report about the winner of the Book Fund Scholarship, which helps a new graduate seeking an education degree buy college books and online research. HCRTA also supports current teachers with funds for extra projects. Retired teachers will be updated on Willard's eighth grade historical reenactment and trip to Columbus to open Kindness in Ohio Campaign. Our speaker at the fall meeting in October will be Mr. Van Camp telling about events for the year-long 250 Years' Celebration. The Western Reserve High School choir will also perform for the retired teachers. Most retired teachers are also members of Ohio Retired Teachers Association (ORTA) which works for retired teacher benefits. The May 14, 2026 meeting will update members on recent changes in fees, rules, etc. Besides business, old and new, members will have raffles to raise money for its teacher requests and scholarship funds. More reason for you retired teachers to attend. Years ago, teachers retiring were encouraged to write an article and include a picture about their teaching experiences which were collected in a notebook. That project has come to light after being on the 'side burner' and a teacher's story has been sent to the paper. Look for Maggie Etlenbach's joy for young students, teaching beginners for 27 years.
