Two from Norwalk, Willard earn SBC first team

NORWALK — The Norwalk boys tennis team had two first-team selections at the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division tournament, which it hosted on Saturday at the Middle School courts. Jeremiah McCreary beat Sandusky's Blake Ott in two competitive sets, 7-6 (6) and 6-3. In the finals against Clyde's Aric Kauble, he fell in two sets, 6-3, 6-4. Both players earned all-league first team honors. Roman Snyder opened with a win over Perkins' Aaron Benkirane (6-1, 6-0) before falling to Sandusky's Brady Mullins (6-1, 6-1). He earned honorable mention. At third singles, Jacob Burger was honorable mention. He beat Clyde's Alex Barrett (6-0, 6-2) before falling to Sandusky's Ishan Chopra in another close match (7-6, 6-4). The first doubles team of Edward Ramos and Jack Pittenger beat Columbian's Liam Randell and Grant Blonde (7-5, 6-2). They lost in the finals to Clyde's Chase Castle and Oscar Webb (6-2, 6-0), which earned them first team recognition. At second doubles, Levi Dickerson and Carter Swick earned second team honors. They beat Ashton Chapman and Sam Milas (6-2, 6-0). In the semifinals, the pair outlasted Columbian's Jarrett Jaeck and Brady Miller in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6. In the finals, Clyde's Cole Sengstock and Trenton Brown beat Dickerson and Swick (6-3, 6-2). Schag, Dawson win Bay brackets PORT CLINTON — Willard's Levi Schag and Mason Dawson won their respective brackets at first and second singles on Saturday at the SBC Bay Division tournament held at Port Clinton High School. Schag, who earned Most Outstanding Performer honors, opened with a win over St. Joseph Central Catholic's Max Yu (6-1, 6-0). He then beat Port Clinton's Kai Wait (6-3, 6-0) in the semis and dominated Pravir Gorty in the finals with a sweep (6-0, 6-0). Dawson dropped one game to Calvert's Owen Link (6-0, 6-1), then beat SMCC's Eian Etchill (6-2, 6-2). In the finals, he bested Port Clinton's Charley Kruse (6-1, 6-3) to secure first team honors. At third singles, Phoebe Schag beat SJCC's Sabrina Brust (6-0, 6-0) before falling in the semis to SMCC's Carter Snyder to earn honorable mention. The first doubles team of Jaxson Hall and Lucas Winans opened with a win over Calvert's Hannah Spaun and Dante Fabrizio in a sweep (6-0, 6-0). They lost a lengthy three-set match to Port Clinton's Evan Lovitt and Zach Speer (6-2, 5-7, 12-10). At second doubles, Willard's Gavin Warner and Owen Shepherd swept Huron's Shayne Newcomer and Sean Newcomer (6-0, 6-0), then fell to SMCC's Jack Davis and Mason Russell (6-2, 6-4). For Edison, Adin Colbert beat Huron's Joey Cencer (6-0, 6-0) in the first round before a loss to SMCC's Gorty (7-6 (5), 6-4) in the semis to finish with honorable mention. At second singles, Ruby lost to Vermilion's Sean Rini (6-1, 6-0), and then bounced back to beat SJCC's Keira Pan (8-5). Mary Moon lost to Vermilion's Caleb Drost, 6-0, 7-6 (2), then rebounded to beat Huron's Zackery Kuhl (8-0). The first doubles team of Brooks Ballah and Kellyn Ritchie fell to Vermilion's Mason McFadden and Kaden Hohla (6-0, 6-1). They rebounded to beat SJCC's Alaina Price and Lily Alcocer (8-0). At second doubles, Jace Pinkston and Oz Rutger beat Calvert's Liam Schumm and Drew Meyer (7-5, 1-6, 10-2) before falling to Port Clinton's DeFrietas and Wymer (6-0, 6-0) in the semis.
