Norwalk, St. Paul win league games

NORWALK — For the second time this week, the Norwalk baseball team won a rain-shortened SBC Lake Division game. The Truckers (10-5, 4-1) were leading Sandusky 8-7 with two outs in the top of the sixth inning when the game was called. The contest was delayed at the outset, and also had a 30-minute lightning delay in the third inning. By Sandusky Bay Conference rules, the game was officially scored an 8-3 win in five innings for the Truckers. League games are considered official after five innings. The final score reverted back to the last full inning completed. Norwalk is one game behind Perkins (7-3, 5-0), which it lost to 3-1 on April 17, at the halfway point of the league schedule. In Friday's win, Kaedyn Warner finished 2 for 3 and drove in three runs and scored twice. Brady Singer was 2 for 3 with a double and also scored twice. (N) Singer, Wilson. St. Paul 9, Plymouth 0 PLYMOUTH — The Division VII No. 7-ranked Flyers (12-2, 7-1) capped a big week with a shutout win over the Big Red. St. Paul is alone in first place atop the Firelands Conference after going 3-1 this week in league play against two contenders, South Central, and the Big Red (7-7, 5-3). Crestview (7-4, 5-2) enters next week alone in second place. In the win, Nate Griffin pitched a complete-game shutout for the Flyers. He allowed five hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks. At the plate, River Couch doubled and drove in there, and Isaac Kalizewski had a double and drove in two. Casey Fries added a single and two RBI. "I really like how we finished this week," St. Paul coach Aaron Fries said. "Nate is pitching at a very high level right now. I couldn't be prouder of the energy level the kids brought today. "We had a good idea we might see an inspired Plymouth team, and every time they looked to get some momentum, we made some great plays in the field to keep the momentum all the way to the last out." He allowed one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. Troy Ayers finished 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI at the plate, while Kayden Blair hit a slo home run and Ben Chaffee doubled with an RBI. For Monroeville (8-5, 4-4), Ethan Smiley was 2 for 3.
