Kalizewski sets state RBI record

PLYMOUTH — Ella Kalizewski had a day to remember for the St. Paul softball team in Friday's 27-3 win in five innings over host Plymouth in Firelands Conference play. The junior standout catcher went 5 for 5 with five extra-base hits. Kalizewski hit two grand slams and a two-run home run and added a two-run double and an RBI double. All told, she drove in 14 runs as the Flyers improved to 11-6 overall and 6-2 in the FC. The 14 RBI in a single game is unofficially the OHSAA record, surpassing two other 13-RBI games that were reported in 2014 and 2021. Kalizewski joins a list of 19 other players to hit two grand slams in a game, while three home runs in one game is tied for the second-most in OHSAA history. Kalizewski opened with a two-run double and a three-run home run in the top of the first inning. She added an RBI double and a grand slam in the third, then capped her day with a grand slam in the top of the fourth. She was due up to bat in the top of the sixth had the game been extended. Also for St. Paul, Taegan Mansfield-Bush was 3 for 4 with three doubles and drove in two runs. Her sibling, Ryleigh Mansfield-Bush, was 4 for 6 with three RBIs and scored four times, while Bella Guerra was also 4 for 6 with a double, an RBI, and scored four times. Kegney Stoll added three hits and drove in three, with Mallorie Sowers, Mia Taggart, and Payton Preston each adding multiple hits. Guerra allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with a pair of strikeouts in three innings to earn the win. Plymouth's Kristi Yeager doubled and drove in two runs for the Big Red (1-14, 0-.8).
