District gets $30K grant

NEW LONDON — New London Schools superintendent Brad Romano discussed a $30,000 Kindergarten Bootcamp grant the district received at Monday's board of education meeting. Given by the state's Department of Children & Youth, the money will provide five weeks of instruction for children who may require special help in adjusting to school before they begin kindergarten. The following were given head coaching contracts for the coming year: Tyler Cawrse, cross country and girls track; Zach Parr, boys golf; TomHowell, boys basketball; Brandon Risner, baseball; Ben Crawshaw, girls golf; Jon Harrison, football; Zach Ringler, volleyball; JasonGriffits, boys wrestling; Jim Hudson, girls wrestling. In other personnel matters, Korban Cominsky and Natasha Messmore were hired as intervention specialists and Leslie Martin as bus drivertrainee. The board accepted the resignations of social worker Jules Cottrill, effective Aug. 7, and paraprofessional Susana Montgomery, effective May 31. The board approved the purchase of new playground equipment through the Ohio Schools Plan and accepted Mosser Construction for the installation. The board authorized the creation of the Brian Baker Scholarship, as well as entered into an agreement with Cannon for a replacement copier not to exceed $35,000. Donations were accepted for the playground, solar cars, the food pantry, scholarships and the eighth-grade trip.
