Western rallies for first FC win

COLLINS — After losing 1-0 on Monday, the Western Reserve baseball picked up a one-run win in a high-scoring game, 11-10, over Monroeville on Tuesday for its first Firelands Conference win of the season. Trailing 7-1 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Roughriders (2-6, 1-5) scored 10 runs in the bottom of the frame. Gavin Trzil finished 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, while Blake Welch was 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Landyn Wiegel and Tyler Wood each singled with two RBIs. Cooper Roe added two hits. Wood earned the win in relief of Roe. He allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Ethan Smiley was 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI for Monroeville (7-4, 3-3). Colt Clark was 2 for 4 and drove in two, while Reid Wasserman singled with there RBIs, and Alex Dowell and Link Schaffer-Paull each singled with an RBI. Jake Fries also added two hits for the Eagles. Evan Schnittker hit an RBI single to center that scored the winning run after Owen Price had hit an RBI single to tie the game. Cole Leimeister also singled with two RBIs for Edison, while Tristian Wetherill was 2 for 3 with a double and score twice, and Ian Preston and Price each had two hits. Bryson Wittmer added a triple. For Norwalk (8-4), Kaedyn Warner singled and drove in three of the four runs.
