Western knocks off Monroeville for first win

COLLINS — The Western Reserve softball team limited visiting Monroeville to six hits and picked up its first win of the season with Tuesday's 8-4 upset victory in Firelands Conference play. Zoey Rhodes singled with four RBIs, while Makayla Case had two base hits for Western (1-8, 1-5). Layken Barnhart doubled and drove in two. Maylee Wetzel went five innings for the pitching win. She allowed four earned runs on five hits with a strikeout and five walks. Brooke Morman was 2 for 4 with an RBI for Monroeville (8-5, 3-2). Taylor Scheid added a single and two RBIs. Ella Kalizewski finished 3 for 3 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs for St. Paul (9-6, 4-2). Allyson Takacs was 3 for 3 with an RBI, while Taegan Mansfield-Bush was 2 for 3 and drove in three. Payton Preston was 2 for 4 with a double, and Ryleigh Mansfield-Bush and Bella Guerra also each had two hits. Guerra went all seven innings for the Flyers to earn the win. She allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. For South Central (5-8, 2-4), Sydnee Middaugh was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, while Novaleigh Myers was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Ella Sanders also had a hit and an RBI. S.
