Police: Be wary of scam

NORWALK — Norwalk police put out an advisory to locals about a new scam cropping up in the city. Several residents told law enforcement they were affected by fraudulent calls claiming they needed to pay a medical bill. In response, the police department released guidance on its Facebook page on what locals should do if they recieve such a call: We've become aware of a scam that has recently affected several residents in our city. Some individuals have received phone calls from a number that appears to be a medical provider, stating that payment is needed on a bill. However, the phone number is being spoofed, and these calls are NOT coming from the actual medical office. Please take the following precautions: • Do not provide banking or personal information over the phone• Hang up and call your healthcare provider directly using a trusted number• Double-check that you are paying the correct facility before making any payments Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and we want everyone in our community to stay safe. Please share this information to help spread awareness and protect others. If you have received a suspicious call, consider reporting it to the police department.
