Did somebody say road trip, again?

Editor's note: Jason Werling, a former photographer for the Register, traveled the entire length of the U.S. 250 highway — from Sandusky southeast to Richmond, Virginia — in 2011 with his young sons and chronicled the journey in the newspaper. Nearly 15 years later and to commemorate America 250, Werling and his now college-age sons are making the more than 500-mile journey once more this May. SANDUSKY — On the road again. We just can't wait to get back on the road again. It's been about 15 years since the Werling boys took their first road trip on U.S. 250 with their dad, me, and you all joined us in the pages of the Sandusky Register. My two boys, Will and Payton, and I drove from the start of U.S. 250 in Sandusky to the end of the route in Richmond, Virginia, back in 2011. Will was 5 and Payton was 4 at the time. They are 20 and 19 now and both are taller than me — a lot taller than me. Just as we did before, the trip will be printed in the Sandusky Register and we will have live updates on Facebook. Search "U.S. 250 Road Trip with the Werling Boys" to follow our progress starting on Monday, May 18. We will travel Ohio on Monday, West Virginia on Tuesday, and Virginia on Wednesday. The trip will be bookended with a visit to Cedar Point on Sunday and Kings Dominion in Richmond on Thursday, two Six Flags parks at each end of the route. We decided to bring the trip back this year as America celebrates its 250th birthday, and what better way than to celebrate the U.S. route that bears the 250 badge and starts/ends right here in Sandusky?
