Norwalk finishes off Lake win over Clyde

NORWALK — The Norwalk baseball team picked up where it left off by beating visiting Clyde, 10-5, in an SBC Lake Division game on Monday. The game was suspended because of rain on April 10 with the Truckers (8-4, 2-1) leading 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth. They outscored the Fliers 6-3 after the game picked up at NHS. Three players had multiple hits for Norwalk, led by Noah Helton. He finished 3 for 4 with a double and scored three times. He was also the winning pitcher, as he pitched the first four innings before the game was halted. Helton allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and four walks. Wesley Shupe finished the game on Monday. In three innings, he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits with a strikeout and two walks. Also at the plate for Norwalk, Landon Ferkel was 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Shupe finished 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while Caiden Wilson singled with two RBIs, and Kaedyn Warner singled with an RBI. Norwalk will entertain Bellevue in another key SBC Lake game on Wednesday before also hosting Sandusky in league play on Friday. The Division VII No. 15-ranked Flyers (9-2, 4-1) led 4-0 after the first inning, but South Central (4-5, 4-1) scored four runs in each of the second and third innings to surge ahead. Sanders and Cole Frankart each had a base hit and three RBIs, while Bryan Chaffee and Wes June each had two hits, with June hitting a double. June went all seven innings on the mound. He allowed seven runs (three earned) on seven hits with nine strikeouts and two walks. For the Flyers, Landon Fries was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Gabe Snyder was 2 for 3 and drove in a pair. Izaac Snyder doubled and scored twice, and Alex Marsh singled with an RBI. Nate Griffin allowed an unearned run on one hit with three strikeouts and two walks over three innings of relief. The two teams will rematch Tuesday in Norwalk. St. Paul 411 100 0 — 7 7 3 S. Smiley then did it all on the mound for the Eagles (7-3, 3-2). His complete-game shutout saw him strike out five batters with no walks on four hits. Hudson Bauer had Monroeville's other base hit. Gavin Trzil took the loss for Western (1-6, 0-5). He allowed an earned run on the two hits with four strikeouts and one walk over six innings. Elijah Ruck picked up the win in relief of Weston Hoover. He allowed one hit with a pair of strikeouts over 1 1/3 innings. Chaz Smith went the final two innings and struck out three on one hit. P.
