Emergency agency gets recognition

NORWALK — Huron County is 'StormReady.' The county's Emergency Management Agency received that designation, a program through the National Weather Service to encourage communication, planning and public warning systems for severe weather events. "For Huron County, being StormReady means having procedures in place to monitor weather conditions, share timely alerts, coordinate emergency response, and help residents stay informed before, during, and after dangerous weather events," Huron County Emergency Management Agency deputy director Kye Stevens said. "The benefits of being StormReady include faster communication, better preparedness, stronger coordination among local agencies and improved public safety." Huron County has been a part of StormReady since 2001, and the most recent renewal of its status in the program marked the eighth time it received that designation. A letter from National Weather Service meteorologist Freddie Zeigler to Stevens and the county agency commended the agency's hard work, noting that it was appreciated by the weather service.
