Lottery luck lands in Huron County

NORWALK — In what can only be described as the county's lucky day, two lottery wins tied to Huron County, including a $3 million scratch-off prize in Norwalk and a Rolling Cash 5 jackpot ticket in Wakeman, were confirmed this week by the Ohio Lottery. The Norwalk win came on the $30 Wild Cash Tripler scratch-off game, which carries a top prize of $3 million. The winning ticket was sold at Miller's Market on Whittlesey Avenue, according to the Ohio Lottery. That game offers its top prize as either an annuity paid over time or a one-time cash option, though the lottery did not specify which was selected in this case. The winner, a man who said he was going to buy tomatoes when he also bought the scratch-off, was shocked to realize he'd won big. "When he delivered the tomatoes and told his girlfriend she said, 'Shut up,' but then believed him because he was shaking," a news release from the Ohio Lottery states. "He plans to pay off his house, go on vacation and invest the rest." The Norwalk winner opted to take the lump sum option rather than $3 million paid out over 25 years, and will recieve a little under $1.1 million. The county's lottery fortunes continued when a woman in Wakeman purchased a Rolling Cash 5 ticket that matched all five numbers in a recent drawing: 15, 25, 26, 27 and 29. The winner will split the jackpot with another winning ticket sold elsewhere in Ohio, the lottery said. Each of those tickets is worth $241,000 and each winner will recieve a little over $176,500 after taxes. Rolling Cash 5 is a daily draw game in which players pick five numbers from 1 to 39. The jackpot grows until all five numbers are matched and then resets following a winning draw. The Ohio Lottery does not routinely release the names of winners, and no identifying details were included in either win.
