Izaac Snyder leads St. Paul past Mapleton

ORANGE TWP. — The state-ranked St. Paul baseball team improved to 8-1 overall and remained alone in first place atop the Firelands Conference at 4-0 with Tuesday's 11-1 win in five innings at Mapleton. Izaac Snyder did it all for the Division VII No. 15-ranked Flyers. He hit a two-run home run to clinch the run-rule win in the fifth and went all five innings on the mound. He allowed an unearned run on three hits with one walk and struck out 11 of the 15 outs he recorded. Also for St. Paul, Gabe Snyder was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, while River Couch was 3 for 3 with a triple and an RBI. Nate Griffin and Landon Fries each singled with an RBI. Smiley finished 3 for 6 with a double and three RBIs for Monroeville. He also went the first seven innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on 10 hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. Link Schaffer-Paul was 3 for 5 with two doubles for the Eagles, while Colt Clark also singled with an RBI. Hudson Bauer went the final three innings of scoreless relief for the win. He allowed one hit with three strikeouts and two walks. Monroeville is at St. Mary Central Catholic on Thursday. Evan King pitched four innings to earn the win. He allowed four earned runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Henry Thomas was 4 for 5 with a double and two RBIs for the Wildcats (4-4, 2-2). Smith went the final two innings and struck out one and walked one and also allowed one earned run. At the plate, Wittmer was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Cole Leimeister singled with two RBIs. Smith and Weston Hoover each added a single and an RBI. Eli Hermes threw a no-hitter against Huron for Edison on Monday.
