June pitches Trojans past Western

COLLINS — Behind a no-hitter from senior Wes June, the South Central baseball team stopped a four-game losing streak in Monday's 2-1 win over host Western Reserve in a Firelands Conference matchup. June allowed an unearned run with eight strikeouts and one walk. He needed just 82 pitches (61 strikes) over the seven innings. June walked Austin Kolb, then an error moved up the baserunner into scoring position, where Landyn Wiegel hit a sacrifice fly to give the Roughriders the 1-0 lead. The score remained that way until the top of the fifth, as the Trojans (2-5, 2-1) plated the game-winning runs. Alex Hamon singled and scored on an RBI double by Greyson Fisher to tie the game. Fisher then stole third and reached home safely on an error for what proved to be the game-winning run. Gavin Trzil allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk over seven innings for Western (1-4, 0-3). The two teams will rematch on Tuesday in Greenwich. So. Izaac Snyder was 3 for 3 with a home run, eight RBIs, three walks, and scored five times from the leadoff spot. Casey Fries was 3 for 4 with a double and four RBIs and also scored four times. Also for the Flyers, Isaac Kalizewski doubled with three RBIs. Rivre Couch and Nate Griffin each drove in three runs, and Gabe Snyder and Brady Fritz each had two RBIs. All the offense was more than enough for Alex Marsh, who allowed three hits in five scoreless innings. He struck out 10 with two walks. The rematch is set for Tuesday at Mapleton.
