South Central hits past Western for win

COLLINS — The South Central softball team scored four times in the top of the third inning for the cushion needed in an 8-3 win over Western Reserve in a Firelands Conference game on Monday. The Trojans (4-6, 1-2) had their top four batters in the lineup each have two hits and register at least one RBI in the victory. Zaida Myers was 2 for 4 with a double, and a triple and drove in a pair while also scoring twice. Ella Sanders was also 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, while Ember Phillips was 2 for 4 with an RBI and scored twice, and Viola Culler was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Novaleigh Myers also was 2 for 3 and scored twice from the No. 9 spot in the lineup for the Trojans, who got seven innings in the circle from Culler. She allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and five walks. For Western (0-6, 0-3), Makayla Case was 2 for 4 with a triple and scored a run. Lilli Jarrett and Maylee Wetzel each singled with an RBI. Layken Barnhart went seven innings and allowed six earned runs on 12 hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.
