Norwalk streak snapped in eight-inning loss

NORWALK — The Norwalk baseball team scored five times in the bottom of the fourth inning to force extras but saw its six-game streak stopped in a 6-5 loss to visiting Ontario on Saturday in eight innings at NHS. The Truckers (7-2) had runners on first and second when the game ended. In the fifth, Brady Singer and Carter Harp started things off with consecutive singles, then Wesley Shupe hit an RBI single to make it 3-1. The Truckers then got their second run on an infield error, followed by a two-run double by Canyon Craig for a 5-3 lead. But the Warriors scored one run in each of the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings as they kept the Truckers scoreless the rest of the way. Norwalk also committed seven errors in the loss. Four pitchers saw action for Norwalk, including 2 1/3 from Shupe. He allowed three unearned runs on no hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Harp went 1 1/3 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk, while Nate King went 2/3 of an inning of scoreless relief with a strikeout and two walks. Greg Keefer then pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed an unearned run on one hit with two strikeouts and one walk. Norwalk will host Galion (5-2) in a non-league game on Monday. It closes the week with SBC Lake Division games on Wednesday against Tiffin Columbian and on Friday at Perkins. The Truckers also lead Clyde, 4-2, in a game postponed by rain in the bottom of the fourth inning on April 10. Cole Frankart and Alex Hamons each reached base on walks for South Central (1-5), while Troy Ayers, Bryan Chaffee, and Greyson Fisher were each hit by a pitch. Hall struck out nine and walked two in his no-hitter, which needed 95 pitches (61 strikes). On the mound, Parker Lane allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and five walks over five innings. Travis Steele went two scoreless innings and struck out three with no walks or hits allowed.
