Western drops two close games to PC

COLLINS — The Western Reserve softball team dropped a pair of close games to visiting Port Clinton in a non-league doubleheader on Saturday. The Redskins won the first game, 4-2, followed by a 7-6 win in the second matchup. In the Game 1 loss for Western (0-4), Lilli Jarrett and Z Rhodes had the lone two hits and runs in the bottom of the first inning. Layken Barnhart allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits. Maylee Wetzel was 2 for 3 with a double for Western, while Makayla Case was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Rhodes added two hits and an RBI, while Barnhart also singled with an RBI. Barnhart allowed five earned runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts and no walks over the five innings. Natalie Desautels was 2 for 4 and scored a run for the Chargers (4-2), while Delaney Fields was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Peyton Taylor had an RBI base hit. Ella Rogers also had two hits. Abby Cloud went six innings for the win. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts and two walks. For St. Paul (5-4), Ella Kalizewski was 2 for 3 and scored a run, while Taegan Mansfield-Bush singled with an RBI. Ryleigh Mansfield-Bush, Bella Guerra, Payton Preston, and Allyson Takacs each had base hits. Guerra went six innings in the circle. She allowed three earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Both Addy Rospert and Takacs each singled with two RBIs and scored twice. Ryleigh Mansfield-Bush also singled with an RBI. Taegan Mansfield-Bush went all six innings for the win. She yields a pair of unearned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks. St. Paul will host Mapleton on Monday and visit the Mounties on Tuesday.
