Reader disapproves of library levy

A new tax levy for the Norwalk Library will be on the ballot again on the May 5 primary. I urge all of you who voted against this levy last November to turn out and vote against it again. They did not listen to the voter, and they will shove this new tax down our throats if we do not again vote against it. A recent article in Reflector stated, "everything we offer is free," but aren't we paying for everything you offer with our current taxes? Our current county commissioners, Bob Morgan, Harry Brady, and Tom Dunlap, have the authority to reduce our property taxes, but have failed to do so. Instead, it's just more and more taxes. They recently obligated us for a $35 million bond issue for the hospital, and they are all very reluctant to talk about it. It's my understanding that the library belongs to Norwalk Schools, so why don't they get their money from the schools? According to my property tax bill, the school system got a 38% increase with the last revaluation. I have heard no explanation on what they are doing with that money. But surely with all the money they take from us, 38% should pay for a library. If they can pay $100 million for a new school building, surely a few million from a new library should be no problem.
