Norwalk blanks Sandusky in SBC Lake opener

SANDUSKY — The Norwalk baseball team opened SBC Lake Division play with a 10-0 win over host Sandusky in five innings on Wednesday at Sandusky High School. The Truckers (6-1, 1-0) have won six of their first seven games of the season after Wednesday's one-hit shutout from senior Carter Harp. He struck out eight and walked two over five innings in the victory. At the plate, Norwalk scored three in the first inning and put the game out of reach with six in the top of the fifth. Landon Ferkel was 2 for 2 with an RBI and scored twice for the Truckers. Noah Helton singled with an RBI, while Brady Singer and Wesley Shupe each added singles. Kaedyn Warner added an RBI for Norwalk, which hosts Plymouth on Thursday and Clyde on Friday. Lincoln Distl was 2 for 3 with two doubles and scored twice out of the leadoff spot for Plymouth (3-2, 1-1). Evan King was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, whilee Keegan Beverly also singled with an RBI. On the mound, King earned the win with 6 2/3 innings of work. He allowed five earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Lex Grose recorded the final out. For Monroeville (4-1, 1-1), Jake Fries was 2 for 3 and scored twice. Hudson Bauer and Sean Frederick each singled with two RBIs. Fries got a no-decision after he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with nine strikeouts and four walks over six innings. Central 3 OLIVESBURG — The Cougars returned the favor on Wednesday, beating the Trojans in the final at-bat in the seventh inning after South Central won in the same fashion on Monday. The Trojans (1-2, 1-1) led 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, only for the Cougars (3-2, 1-1) to score two runs n a walk, single, and two fielder's choice hit balls. K Blair and Troy Ayers each had a single with an RBI for South Central, while Cole Frankart and Gavin Olney each singled and scored. Olney went six innings on the mound. He allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits with seven strikeouts and six walks. S. The lone win for Edison came at second doubles, where Jace Pinkston and Oz Rutger beat Luke Evans and Matt Gebard (6-1, 6-2). At first doubles, Wade Ruggles and Kellyn Ritchie lost to Luke Spicer and Pavan Gorty (6-0, 6-1). At first singles, Adin Colbert lost to Pravir Gorty (4-6, 6-0, 10-5). Kaden Mees lost to Eian Etchill (6-0, 6-1) at scond singles, and Mary Moon lost to Carter Snyder (6-0, 6-0) at third singles.
