NMS track and field teams open season

The Norwalk Middle School track and field teams opened the season with strong performances at the Clyde Early Bird Invitational on April 2. The NMS girls placed second, and the boys were third. The 4x800-meter relay team of Brynn Sellers, Adelinn Sitterly, Lily Miller, and Layla Koch broke the meet record by 10 seconds with a time of 10:48.38. The 4x100 relay of Liv Darovich, Kallie Oates, Evie Stowers, and Londynn Clifton also broke the meet record in 55.52 seconds. The 4x400 also took first in 4:44.82, and the 4x200 was second in 2:01.78. Clifton was also named MVP of the girls meet and won all the events she competed in. That included the 100 hurdles in 17.24 seconds and the 200 hurdles in 32.03. Also for the NMS girls, Darovich was third in the 100 (14.02), while Brynn Sellers was second in the 400 (1:07.18) and Kayla Naseman (1:09.23) was third. Koch was fourth in the 1600 (6:02.02), as were Addison Hance in the 100 hurdles (19.61), Olivia Roth in the high jump (5 feet 6 inches), and Brynn Sellers in the 800 (2:41.64). For the boys, Zane Daniels was second in the 500 (59.5), as was James Dotson in the discus (92 feet 2 inches). Placing third were Brysen Risner in the high jump (five feet) and Max Bundren in the shot put (36 feet, 1 inch). Benny Sellers was fourth in the 1600 in 5:26.61. In relays, the 4x400 was second (4:02.79), and the 4x800 (10:27.61) was third. The following boys received awards: Liam Marshall, Drew Hamernik, Benny Sellers, Daniels, Hunter Knoll, Carter Pelton, Caleb Cross, Risner, Dotson, and Bundren. "The team performed very well for the first meet of the season," NMS head coach Dave Daniels said. "The future of the team looks bright as we are early in the season and some stars are starting to shine."
