Norwalk, St. Paul split non-league DHs

NORWALK — The Norwalk baseball team split a pair of non-league games against two different teams in a doubleheader on Saturday. First, the Truckers (3-1) defeated visiting Oak Harbor by a 13-5 score. Norwalk then hosted Crestview in a resumed game that was postponed on March 31. The Truckers led 1-0 in the bottom of the first when it was resumed, but it was the Cougars scoring twice each in the third and fourth innings for a 5-2 win. Against the Rockets, Norwalk had a 12-0 lead by the end of the second inning. Carter Harp was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI, and scored three times. Kaedyn Warner was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Noah Helton also had two hits with an RBI. Also for the Truckers, Canyon Craig doubled with two RBIs, and Caiden Wilson had a single and three RBIs. Wesley Shupe was one of three pitchers and earned the win. He struck out three and walked three while allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in 2 1/3 innings. O. Helton singled and scored both runs for Norwalk, while Grady Naseman was 2 for 2 with a double, and Harp singled with an RBI. Harp also pitched three innings and took the loss despite four unearned runs with eight strikeouts and two walks. He allowed eight hits. The Truckers are scheduled to host Shelby on Monday. Gabe Snyder finished 2 for 2 with a double and drove in two for St. Paul (3-1). Casey Fries also doubled with an RBI, while Alex Marsh and Landon Fries also each doubled. Nate Griffin was among four pitchers in the game and earned the win. He allowed two earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 1 2/3 innings. Fries Mohawk 17, St. Paul 9 NORWALK — The Flyers were leading 6-0 after three innings of the second game, only for the Warriors to score nine runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good and earn the split. Izaac Snyder was 2 for 3 with a double, three RBIs, and also scored three runs in the loss. Landon Fries was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs as well, while Isaac Kalizewski singled with an RBI. Fries Monroeville 1, Woodmore 0 MONROEVILLE — A bunt by Colt Clark scored Hudson Bauer for the game's only run in the bottom of the eighth inning on Saturday. Bauer reached on a dropped third strike to start the inning. He got to second on an error by Woodmore, then advanced to third base on a single from Owen Patchen. Bauer got the win, going the final two innings for Monroeville (3-0). He allowed one hit while striking out two. Tristan Wise also had three singles for the Eagles. Kaleb Weaver was 2 for 3 with a double in the loss, while Jandyel Salazar was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Dalton Reed also had two hits that included a double. Willard 010 02 — 3 7 2 S. For Willard (0-4), Roger Whetstone was 2 for 3 with a double, while Weaver doubled with two RBIs, and Salazar also doubled with an RBI. Willard 401 101 — 6 6 2 S. East 7, Willard 5 ATTICA — The host Tigers held off a late rally from the Crimson Flashes in non-league play Saturday. Willard (4-3) had five hits, including two with a double from Natalie Slone. Ava Deel was the tough-luck losing pitcher after allowing one earned run on seven hits over six innings. Willard is slated to host Vermilion on Monday in its SBC Bay opener.
