Norwalk track and field opens at Pirate Relays

PERKINS TWP. — The Norwalk track and field teams opened the season on April 3 at the Jim Hauser Pirate Relays at Firelands Regional Medical Center Stadium. Among the highlights for the Truckers, the 4x800-meter relay team of Clay Heyman, Tristan Biddinger, Alex Christophel and Casey Kromer won the event in 9:01.21. The Norwalk girls claimed a win in the pole vault relays as Adyson Lepley (10-0), Allison Konik (8-0) and Taryn Temple (6-0) teamed up to place second, fourth, and eighth, respectively. In the team standings, Norwalk placed fifth among eight teams on the boys side with 70 points behind host Perkins (123), Bellevue (81.5), Huron (91), and Sandusky (80). The girls also placed fifth out of eight teams with 69 points behind Bellevue (124.5), Huron (100), Sandusky (85), and Perkins (79). Placing second for the NHS boys also included Isaak White (12 feet) in the pole vault and the 4x400 relay in 3:43.53. Finishing in third included Dylan Eggleston (16.28 seconds) in the 110 hurdles, along with the 4x100 relay (47.97) and the distance medley in 11:43.1. Noah Jameson was fifth in the long jump at 20-feet-3.25 inches. Edison also competed at the Pirate Relays. The trio of Trevor Leimeister (11.11) in the 100 dash; Kellen McDonnell in the 1600 run (5:10.03), and Caleb Jeremay (11-feet-6) in the pole vault. Madison Hessemer was third in the high jump (4-feet-6) for Edison. The distance medley team placed second (15:07.4), and the 4x100 relay placed fourth (55.34). SOFTBALL Monroeville 6, Carey 4 CAREY — In a rematch of a 2024 regional title game, the Eagles held off a late rally from host Carey to claim a non-league win on Friday. The Blue Devils had the tying run come to the plate in the bottom of the seventh after entering the final inning trailing by four runs. Payton Weilnau had three hits, including a triple, and scored three runs for the Eagles (3-2). She also got the final out in the circle to earn a save. Taylor Scheid, who pitched the first 6 2/3 innings to get the win. She also hit a home run and drove in a pair, while Alayna Tyler added two hits and two RBI for the Eagles. In May 2024, the Eagles edged Carey, 6-5, to win their first of two straight regional championships. Leimeister allowed just one hit in three innings before Price gave up two in two innings. Bryson Wittmer went 2 for 3 with a double, scored three runs and drove in one to lead Edison (2-0). Chaz Smith had two hits and drove in two runs. Weston Hoover doubled and singled. Leimeister scored three runs for the Chargers.
