St. Paul rallies past Hopewell

NORWALK — The St. Paul baseball team used a five-run sixth inning for a 7-4 win over perennial contender Hopewell-Loudon on Monday at Norwalk Area Contractors Park. Izaac Snyder started for the Flyers (2-0) and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits. He struck out 10 and walked two in 5 1/3 innings. He was followed by Casey Fries, who allowed one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts and a walk in 1 1/3 innings to get the win. Nate Griffin allowed a hit, then recorded the final out. In the five-run sixth, Izaac Snyder and Alex Marsh both singled, then Brady Fritz was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. River Couch walked to force in a run, then Isaac Kalizewski hit a two-run single, and Fritz scored on the throw to make it 6-3. Gabe Snyder then singled, and Kalizewski scored on a fielding error in left. "Good win for us," St. Paul head coach Aaron Fries said. "Izaac did a good job on the mound, and offensively I thought seven was the minimum we could score. We had a lot of traffic, but some important at-bats early in the game cost us some scoring opportunities." Kalizewski was 4 for 4 with three RBIs for St. Paul, while Landon Fries doubled with an RBI. "We finally broke through in the sixth, and Isaac had outstanding at-bats all game long," Coach Fries said. The Truckers (1-1) got wins at first and second singles from Jeremiah McCreary (6-2, 6-3) and Roman Snyder (6-2, 6-0). Jacob Burger lost a lengthy match at third singles (2-6, 7-6 (8), 10-7). The first doubles team of Edward Ramos and Jack Pittenger won (6-2, 6-3), as did the No. 2 doubles team of Levi Dickerson and Carter Swick (6-3, 6-1). Willard 3, Clyde 2 CLYDE — The Crimson Flashes won the first two singles positions en route to a win over the host Fliers on Monday in a matchup of the defending Lake and Bay champions in 2025. Levi Schag defeated Aric Kauble at first singles (6-3, 6-3), then Phebe Schag beat Connor Eastby (7-5, 7-5) at second singles. Clyde's Cole Sengstock beat Gavin Warner (6-3, 6-3) at third singles The Fliers also won at first doubles, as Chase Castle and Oscar Webb topped Jaxson Hall and Lucas Winans (6-2, 6-2). But Willard clinched the match at second doubles as Mason Dawson and Riley Branham beat Trenton Brown and Alex Barrett in three long sets, (7-5, 5-7, 6-4).
