S.C. beats Arcadia, falls to Calvert

TIFFIN — The South Central softball team split a pair of games against Arcadia and host Tiffin Calvert on Saturday in Tiffin. Against Arcadia, the Trojans (1-2) scored 10 runs after the first three innings of an 11-7. South Central then saw host Calvert — a regional team last season — put up six runs in the third and seventh innings of a 15-3 loss to fall to 1-2. Against Arcadia, Ember Phillips was 4 for 5 with two RBIs, while Viola Culler had two doubles and two RBIs. Ella Sanders was also 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Claire Howell doubled with three RBIs. Culler earned the pitching win. She allowed seven runs (four earned) on six hits with six strikeouts and four walks over seven innings of work. Against the Senecas, Phillips doubled and had two RBIs for the Trojans, while Mayson Middaugh singled and scored twice, and Howell was 3 for 3 and scored a run. Olivia Yetter was 4 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs, while Addison Yetter had three hits, and Gracie Thomas was 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Peyton Pickering was 2 for 4 with a double, and Pailee Wilson and Chloe Cooke also each had two hits. Addison Yetter earned the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over seven innings. Ethan Smiley started and went the first four innings for Monroeville. He allowed three hits but struck out nine with three walks. Jake Fries went the next two innings and allowed one hit with three strikeouts and two walks, while Hudson Bauer pitched a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts. At the plate, Owen Patchen, Reid Wasserman, and Bauer each singled with an RBI. The Eagles are scheduled to visit Buckeye Central on Monday. Clinton 3, Norwalk 2 PORT CLINTON — The Truckers earned wins at first singles and second doubles in a season-opening loss to the Redskins on March 26. Jeremiah McCreary won for Norwalk at first singles in three sets over Kai Weit, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. The second doubles team of Levi Dickerson and Jack Pittenger defeated Aero Wymer and Austin Leis, 6-3, 6-0. Also for Norwalk, Jacob Burger fell to Charley Kruse at second singles (6-2, 7-5), while Carter Swick lost to Alex DeFreitas at third singles (6-3, 6-0). The first doubles team of Edward Ramos Cruz and Roman Snyder fell to Port Clinton's Evan Lovitt and Payton Wadsworth, 6-0, 6-2. Norwalk is slated to host Edison on Monday.
