WATCH: Advocate slams judge, prosecutors

At least two, possibly three young women would have been spared the trauma of being raped if a judge and prosecutors had done their jobs, according to Tracy Thom, who was a guest this week on "Between the Lines." McClain Durst, 28, was arrested July 22 by the Huron County Sheriff's office on suspicions he raped an underage girl in West Clarksville. He also is a suspect in another rape of a girl that also occurred in July in Erie County.He allegedly committed both rapes while free on bond from a rape charge dating back to 2015 in Sandusky County, and officials there failed to protect the public despite Durst's repeated violations of the terms of his bond, Thom said. "They didn't arrest him when he was driving under suspension. They didn't arrest him when he was caught in a hotel room doing drugs, didn't revoke (his bond) for any of those other reasons, but finally another county arrests him and puts him in jail and they're like, 'Well, we better revoke that bond.' Too late for the victims."Watch Thom speak out[toutembed=gdux1q]Thom, a public records advocate and a crime victims advocate, dished out her harshest criticism for assistant Sandusky County Prosecutor Mark Mulligan, saying he gave Durst a sweetheart plea deal back in 2014 that empowered Durst to perhaps believe he was above the law.Mark Mulligan was defeated in November in his bid to be re-elected Ottawa County prosecutor and subsequently hired on as an assistant prosecutor in Sandusky County in January 2017. In that case, Durst again allegedly overpowered a young female and raped her."I want people held responsible," Thom said. "Mulligan, (current Sandusky County Prosecutor Tim) Braun, Judge Dewey. They should be held responsible for the times they could have held him in jail and prevented these rapes.To date there are at least five victims who claim Durst raped them, one dating back almost 10 years. Two of those resulted in plea deals in which Durst served a minimum amount of prison time. He's awaiting trial in Sandusky County for the alleged rape in 2015, and now faces trial in Huron County and possibly Erie County for the rapes allegedly committed last month.
