Margaretta surges past Monroeville

MONROEVILLE — The Monroeville softball team Tok its first loss of the season with a 14-5 defeat to Margaretta on Thursday at Clark Park. The Eagles led 5-1 after three innings, only for the Polar Bears to score eight times in the top of the fourth and five more runs in the top of the sixth. Taylor Scheid had an RBI triple and Alayna Tyler had an Rbi single in the bottom of the first inning for the Eagles. Brooke Morman added an RBI single in the third inning. Payton Weilnau added two hits and scored a run, and went the first five innings in the circle. She struck out 11 with four walks and was not charged with an earned run on three hits allowed. Monroeville will be tested again when it heads to Tiffin Calvert on Monday. Ella Kalizewski was 3 for 3 with one double, one triple, and drove in six runs to pace St. Paul (1-1). Kegney Stoll was 2 for 2, and Mallorie Sowers doubled with an RBI. Also for the Flyers, Bella Guerra was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and scored four times. Addy Rospert also singled with an RBI, while Allyson Takacs walked three times and scored three times. In the circle, Guerra went all five innings for the win. She allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and no walks. The Flyers are scheduled to host Port Clinton at 1 p.m. Saturday. Kenley Bond and Ellie Whitright had the lone two hits for Willard (2-2), while Natalie Slone scored twice. Willard is slated to host Western Reserve for two games at 11 a.m. on Saturday. South Central had three hits in the loss, including a double from Novaleigh Myers. Zaida Myers singled with an RBI and Ella Sanders also had a single. South Central is scheduled to visit Arcadia with Tiffin Calvert on Saturday for two games. S. Mohawk, which reached the state semifinals last year and brought most of that team back, also had 11 hits. Edison had a pair of hits from Adison Wechter and Delaney Fields. The Chargers are scheduled to visit Rossford at 11 a.m. Saturday for a doubleheader.
