St. Paul falls to Calvert in opener

TIFFIN — The St. Paul softball team opened its season with a 12-3 non-league loss to host Calvert on Wednesday in Tiffin. Trailing 5-0 after three innings, the Flyers cut the deficit to 5-3 after the top of the fourth. However, the Senecas added five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull away. Ella Kalizewski doubled with an RBI, while Ryleigh Mansfield-Bush doubled and scored a run for the Flyers. Taegan Mansfield-Bush added an RBI single, while Kegney Stoll and Mallorie Sowers each added base hits. Bella Guerra allowed five earned runs on 12 hits with six strikeouts and two walks in five innings in the circle. Reagan Money was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Scarlet Schneider was 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs. Saige Viock was 2 for 3 with an RBI and also scored three times. Also for Norwalk, Audryn Ott was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs, and Alexis Dellisanti was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Sophia Ames went five scoreless innings and allowed one hit in the circle. She struck out 10 with two walks. The Truckers host Elyria Catholic on Friday. F.
