Six FC standouts earn All-Ohio

COLUMBUS — Six standouts from the Firelands Conference were named all-state selections on Wednesday. The Ohio Prep Sports Media Association announced the All-Ohio teams for Division VII, with five seniors and one sophomore from the FC included. Plymouth senior Jarrett Burrer had the top honor, as the FC Player of the Year was voted to the second team. During the regular season, Burrer averaged 19 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game for the Big Red, who finished 15-9 overall and 9-5 in the FC. Burrer led the FC in scoring and was fourth in rebounding and second in assists in helping the Big Red to a sectional title. He also shot 51 percent from the field on his way to surpassing 1,000 career points this season. Three players were on the special mention list, including Monroeville senior Cole Perry. He averaged 12.8 points and 10 rebounds per game during the regular season to help the Eagles (18-6, 11-3) to the FC title for the first time in 42 years, Perry also led the FC in field goal percentage (58.5) and was tied for second in rebounds. St. Paul senior guard Landon Fries was special mention. He averaged 17.6 points per game for the Flyers (12-11, 7-7), which helped him finish 13th in the program for points in a season (404) and 19th for points in a career (733). Rounding out the special mention trio was Plymouth sophomore Izaya Reynolds, who averaged 14 points and 8.6 rebounds. Two area players were honorable mention, including South Central senior Bryan Chaffee. He helped the Trojans (12-13, 4-10) to a district title game appearance after averaging 18 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.7 steals per game. Monroeville senior Maverick Myers was also honorable mention. He led the Eagles in scoring at 14.3 points per game, and also added 4.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per contest. Player of the Year honors again went to Delphos St. John's senior Cameron Elwer, who was also runner-up for a second straight year for the Mr. Basketball award. With 2,768 points, Elwer finished sixth all-time in OHSAA history in career points. The NCAA Div. I Furman University commit averaged 29.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game and led the Blue Jays to the state championship with a 29-0 record. Elwer scored 28 points with seven rebounds and five assists in the title game win on March 22. The Jays were 91-14 in Elwer's four seasons, which also saw him earn Midwest Athletic Conference POY three times. Montpelier's Nick Ramos was the division's Coach of the Year. He took the Locomotives from 3-20 in 2022 to 7-13 and 11-12 the next two years before a 17-6 mark last season. This winter, the Locos won their first sectional title since 1978, followed by the program's first district title in 80 years.
