New London duo earns All-Ohio honors

COLUMBUS — Seniors Valery Henry and Gracie Thomas led New London to another banner season this winter. The pair was recognized on Monday as All-Ohioans in Division VI after the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association released the teams. The Wildcats finished 21-4 overall and 14-0 in the Firelands Conference for a third consecutive season. Henry earned special mention in Div. VI after she led a balanced starting five in scoring at 11.9 points per game for New London. She addd 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest. Meanwhile, Thomas was an honorable mention selection after she nearly averaged a double-double at 9.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Henry and Thomas helped the Wildcats to a third straight FC title while the team extended its league win streak to 43 games, which is a conference record, and the second-longest between boys and girls behind Western Reserve's boys program (46, 2018-23). New London also joined Crestview (1995-97, 2020-22) and Western Reserve (2009-13, 2017-19) as the lone programs to win at least three straight FC titles in a row. Ottawa Hills sophomore Kendell Skiver, who helped the Green Bears edge NL in overtime of a district title game, was the Div. VI Player of the Year. Skiver averaged 26.8 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 4.7 steals per contest. The two-time TAAC player of the year reached 1,000 points in 44th career game this season. Coach of the Year was shared by Johnstown Northridge's Bill Mitchin and Pleasant Hill Newton's Stefanie Landis. Mitchin led the Vikings to a program-record 17 wins and reached the district title game for the first time in history this season.
