Jaycees boost Uptown with new amenities

NORWALK — Visitors to the city's Uptown district will notice a few new additions meant to make the area a little more comfortable and welcoming. The city recently received a donation from the Norwalk Jaycees that includes new benches, maple leaf–designed bicycle racks and flowerpots for the downtown area. City officials said the benches and bike racks have already been installed, while the flowerpots will be placed near the benches later this spring. The improvements are intended to add seating and encourage more people to travel through the Uptown District by bicycle, according to a news release issued by the city. General Services Superintendent Adam Boss said city crews installed the bike racks in front of Common Good Collective, Pohl Park and Excel Bike. He said residents began using them almost immediately. "We are lucky to have people in the town willing to donate to our city and help make these projects happen," Boss said. "Residents were eager to use the bike racks once they were installed, which is great to see." City leaders said the project reflects the Jaycees' ongoing involvement in local events and community improvements. Danny Grine, past president of the Norwalk Jaycees, said the group wanted to give something back after receiving strong support from residents and city officials during the annual Strawberry Festival. "The Jaycees were eager to give back to our community after a tremendous amount of support for the Strawberry Festival from the City of Norwalk and the residents," Grine said. Mayor Dave Light thanked the organization for contributing to the downtown district. "The Norwalk Jaycees have long been strong supporters of projects that enhance our community," Light said. "I am grateful for their generosity and dedication to making Norwalk a better place." Light said the additions are meant to help make Uptown more inviting for both residents and visitors while supporting organizations that contribute to the community.
