Norwalk's Lazzara is NW District POY

After leading Norwalk to its third-ever district championship, senior Trinity Lazzara was selected as the Northwest District Player of the Year in Division III. A panel of Ohio Prep Sports Media Association members from Bucyrus, Celina, Defiance, Findlay, Fremont, Lima, Mansfield, Norwalk, Sandusky, Tiffin, and Toledo selects the teams. Lazzara shared the award with Ashland junior Kennedy Lacey and Toledo Notre Dame senior Kallie Thames. Lazzara and the Truckers (19-7) faced both players in an eight-day span in the state tournament. In 26 games this season, the 5-foot-7 guard averaged 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game for Norwalk. She shot 41 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free-throw line. In two district tournament wins, Lazzara scored 38 points on 15 of 27 shooting as the Truckers defeated Ashland and Elida to earn a third trip to the regional round of the OHSAA tournament. She finished her Norwalk career with 773 points. Two of Lazzara's teammates also earned district recognition. Junior Emmie Leber (6-0) earned a spot on the second team after she averaged 12.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 45 percent from the field. Freshman Jo Jackson (6-1) was honorable mention. She averaged 8.8 points and 6.9 rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the floor. DIVISION V Willard trio recognized After a 20-win season, the Crimson Flashes had three players land on a team in Div. V. Leading scorer Corrin Gettys was a first-team selection. The senior averaged 12.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for Willard (20-5), which reached a district title game for the second straight year. Senior Camryn Wiers averaged 8.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.5 steals to earn a spot on the second team. A third senior, Reese Bedingfield, was voted to the third team after averaging 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest. Edison had two players recognized in Ella Booth and Stella Brown. Booth was a second-team selection after she averaged 10.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game for the Chargers (8-14). Brown (6.9 points, 3.0 steals) was honorable mention. DIVISION VI-VII Henry earns first team One year after being a second team selection to earn All-Ohio recognition, New London senior Valery Henry was voted to the first team in Div. VI. She was joined by senior classmate Gracie Thomas on the third team for the Wildcats. Henry and Thomas led New London to a 21-4 overall record and a 14-0 mark in the Firelands Conference for a third consecutive season. Henry led a balanced starting five in scoring at 11.9 points per game for New London. She added 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest. Thomas nearly averaged a double-double at 9.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Seven additional FC players earned honorable mention in Div. VI and Div. VII. In Div. VI, honorable mention went to New London senior Raeann Mitchell (7.0 points, 4.2 assists), South Central senior Emily Lamoreaux (9.5 points, 11.8 rebounds), Western Reserve senior Layken Barnhart (9.6 points, 5.8 rebounds), and Monroeville sophomore Sophia Stieber (13.3 points, 3.2 steals). In Div.
