Three area teams fall in sectional finals

GENOA — The Western Reserve boys basketball team struggled to score against unbeaten Genoa Friday night, falling 56-33 in a Division V sectional title game. The Comets are 23-0 after the win, while the Roughriders finished the season at 11-10. Cooper Roe scored eight points to lead Western. Chase Hipp had six points, four rebounds, and two assists, while Hayden Keith added five points, six rebounds, and three assists. Hayden Dobias also had six points for the Roughriders, who shot 12 of 37 from the field compared to 23 of 40 for the Comets. Mansfield Senior 65, Norwalk 30 MANSFIELD — The Truckers saw their season end with a Div. III sectional title game loss to the host Tygers (16-7) Friday night at Pete Henry Gymnasium. Norwalk (1-22) was limited to just 26 shot attempts in the 32 minutes, and made nine of them. The Truckers were 9 of 12 at the free throw line. Xavier Saunders scored 16 of the 30 points for the Truckers, while Nolan Jones added seven. Brandon Carty scored five points, and Kingston Gonzales added two points. Margaretta 86, Edison 42 CASTALIA — The Chargers were paced by Cole Leimeister with 14 points in Friday's Div. V sectional title game loss to the Polar Bears. At the 6:52 mark in the third quarter, Leimeister became Edison's all-time leader in career 3s made with 106 in his career. Coltyn Meagrow contributed 13 points in the loss, which saw Edison finish 11-13 overall after an 0-6 start. The careers for seniors Leimeister, Meagrow and Kellen McDonnell wrapped up Friday. "You know, I have an awesome job where I can meet excellent kids," Edison coach Dan Campana said. "I have been around Cole and Coltyn since first grade and they are excellent kids. "I could not be more proud of them and they will be big shoes to fill. Kellen (McDonnell) was injured last year, but he played a huge role for us this season."
