Norwalk ninth at host Invitational

NORWALK — Host Norwalk had four placers and finished among the top 10 in a 42-team field on Feb. 22 at its girls wrestling Invitational at NHS. The Truckers scored 48 points, good for a ninth-place tie with Ada. Marysville (131.5) won the tournament ahead of Gibsonburg (122.5), and Sandusky (95). New London (34 points) was 18th, while Western Reserve also competed at the event. Norwalk's highest placer came at 170 pounds, where junior Allison Dennis placed second. Dennis pinned Hopewell-Loudon's Mackenzie Rano in 57 seconds and Sandusky's Sadie Jarret-Jackson in 1:07. She then scored a 10-3 decision over Hicksville's Nadia King to reach the finals, where she was pinned by Eastwood's Eliana Rush in 1:15. Sophomore Olivia Ysaguirre went 3-3 at 115 pounds to place sixth, while junior Roxlynn Clifton was also sixth at 120. Placing seventh with a 2-2 mark at 100 pounds was freshman Sarah Cruz Segovia. For New London, junior Ava Downs pinned Eastwood's Aaralyn Broud in 20 seconds before losing by fall to Gibsonburg's Lilly Zwiefel in 57 seconds to finish runner-up in the 100-pound weight class. Also for the Wildcats, senior Hallie Pylant went 2-2 at 140 to place fourth, and senior Gwyneth Voltz went 1-2 at 235 to place fifth. All three area teams will compete at the Clyde sectional tournament, which starts at 4 p.m. Friday.
