Crestview edges Western for FC title

OLIVESBURG — The Western Reserve wrestling team had four individual champions, but came up just 4.5 points shy of the team tile on Saturday at the Firelands Conference meet at Crestview High School. The Cougars had two individual champions, but three other finalists compared to two for Western Reserve to total 146.5 points to 142 for the Roughriders. Claiming first place for Western included Colson Lutz at 106 pounds; Chance Warthling at 120, Anthony Lierenz at 126; and Jaxson Davidson at 138. Lutz (26-9) pinned Plymouth's Levi Foley in 35 seconds in the finals at 106. Warthling (31-7) had a pin in 53 seconds and a technical fall (17-2) before pinning St. Paul's Vinny Caizzo in the finals in 3:43. Lierenz (34-8) won a pair of matches, including a pin in 1:29 over Crestview's Dylan Burge for first place. Davidson (30-5) had a pin in 2:54 before rolling to a 17-2 technical fall in the finals over Crestview's Brayden Parrigan. Rafael Gross had three pins totaling just 2:21 in length to win the title at 165 for St. Paul. Gross (37-5) pinnd New London's Ethan Koch in 59 seconds in the finals for the Flyers, who totaled 111 points to place third in the team standings. Fourth-place South Central had three champions, including Wyatt Martin (38-5) at 113, where he won a 9-6 decision over Western's Lucas Summerifeld for first. At 150, Cole Frankart (26-5) won three matches, a 15-0 technical fall, a 9-3 decision, then by disqualification over St. Paul's Zeke Dvorak in the finals. Greyson Fisher (37-7) had two pins in 2:25 before outscoring St. Paul's Landon Kennebeck, 23-12, in the final. Monroeville had two champions in former state placers Owen Patchen (14-2) at 132 and Brycen Dunlap (32-9) at 285. Patchen cruised to a 19-3 technical fall, a pin in 1:15, then another technical fall, 20-3, over Crestview's Max Whitesel. Dunlap had a pin and a 7-2 decision over Mapleton's Lukus Jenkins at 285 pounds. New London and Plymouth each had one champion. Oliver Harrison won two matches for the Wildcats at 190, including a pin in 3:40 over the Big Red's Isaiah Miller in the final. Trimmer (28-11) had a technical fall win before edging Western's Landen Barnhart, 4-3, in the finals at 144. Also wrestling in the finals and placing second was New London's Hunter Chandley (175) and South Central's Alex Hamons (215). Earning third place from the area included Western's Kohler Graves (150); St. Paul's Brady (215) and Cam (285) Coetzee; Plymuth's Thomas Winegardner (120); Monroeville's Mike Scheid (126) and Carter Roeder (138); and New London's Tate Mitchell (132). Fourth-place finishers included New London's Tyler Kidd (113) and David Hostetler (150); South Central's Jaxson Strickland (138) and Justin Gillum (165); Plymouth's Lucas Distl (126) and Xavior Beveridge (132); St. Paul's Abel Couch (190), and Western's Luke Arnold (215). ----------------------- Firelands Conference championships1.
