Willard routs Huron for district rematch

WILLARD — The Willard girls basketball team cruised past Huron for a third time this season, this time in a Division V sectional championship game on Saturday. The Crimson Flashes (19-4) led 18-7 after one quarter and 34-10 at halftime in the 52-21 win over the Tigers inside Robert L. Haas Gymnasium. With the win, the No. 2-seed Flashes advance to a district semifinal against No. 1 Clear Fork (19-4) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lakota High School. The winner will advance to a district title game at Defiance High School on Saturday against the winner between Archbold (18-5) and Delta (19-4). Willard is eighth and Clear Fork is 10th in Div. V according to the MaxPreps rankings. Last season, the Colts defeated the Flashes, 61-39, in a district title game at Shelby. In Saturday's win over Huron (7-16), the Flashes got balanced scoring. Dalynn Funk scored 14 points, followed by Reese Bedingfield with 13, and Corrin Gettys with 12 points. BOYS BASKETBALL Monroeville 74, Fre. SJCC 34 MONROEVILLE — The Eagles concluded the regular season on a 10-game winning streak with Saturday's non-league rout over the Crimson Streaks on Steve Moore Court. Maverick Myers paced Monroeville, which outscored the Streaks by eight-plus points in each quarter, with 14 points. Cole Perry had 12, while Colton Koch scored 10, and both Caleb Dixon and Aiden Myers each scored eight points. Monroeville (17-5) did not lose a game in February, and clinched the program's first Firelands Conference title since the 1983-84 season. The Eagles host FC rival St. Paul (12-10) at 6 p.m. Thursday in a Division VII sectional title game. Each team won at home during the regular season. The Eagles claimed a 57-47 win on Dec. 12, while the Flyers won, 44-38, on Jan. 17 in Norwalk. FRE.
