NL defeats Western to advance

NEW LONDON — The New London girls basketball team beat Firelands Conference foe Western Reserve for a third time this season in Thursday's 46-18 win in a Division VI sectional title game. With the win, the Wildcats (20-3) advanced to a district semifinal against Woodmore (17-6) at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fremont Ross High School. In the win over the Roughriders, Pailee Wilson scored 16 points and Gracie Thomas had 11. Valery Henry added nine. The Wildcats turned a 20-8 halftime lead into 26-10 scoring advantage in the second half. For Western (12-10), Laykan Barnhart had six points and Kara Woodruff scored five.
