Norwalk has two champs at Rossford

ROSSFORD — The Norwalk wrestling team had two individual champions to place third in the standings on Saturday at the McCumber Invitational at Rossford High School. Nico Helton won the 175-pound weight class, while Cooper Gee took first at heavyweight (285) to lead seven placers for the Truckers. Helton was barely on the mat for Norwalk with four pins. He needed 47 seconds, 1:15, and 37 seconds to advance to the finals, where he pinned Perrysburg's Logan Hartzell in 1:07. Gee also opened his tournament with two pins in 24 seconds and 5:58, then used a 5-1 decision in the semifinals over Matthew Murray (St. Marys Memorial) to reach the finals. Gee — ranked 18th in Division II by borofanohio.net — then capped his day with a 7-0 win over Div. I No. 20-ranked Toledo Whitmer's Carter Baldwin. Also for Norwalk, Aldynn Metzger was second at 126. He went 2-1 with a technical fall (18-3) and a pin (1:34) before falling to Whitmer's Div. I No. 7-ranked AJ Dubendorfer in the finals, 10-1. Nolan Naseman was fifth at 132, and Adam Goebel (165) and Victor Negrete (138) each placed sixth for the Truckers, who are scheduled to host Bucyrus on Thursday prior to also hosting the Sandusky Bay Conference championships on Feb. 21. For St. Paul, Rafael Gross continued his impressive season by winning the 165-pound weight class. Ranked No. 4 in the state at his weight, Gross won four matches on Saturday. He opened with a pin in 47 seconds, followed by a 17-2 technical fall win to advance to the semifinals, where Gross claimed a 5-2 decision over Seneca East's No. 22-ranked Bentley Gayheart. In the finals, Gross then beat No. 18-ranked Dylan Kantner (Delphos St. John's) by a 4-0 decision. The Flyers are off until the Firelands Conference championships on Feb. 21 at Crestview. Edison third at regional duals ARCHBOLD — The Chargers fell to Liberty Center (54-24) before bouncing back to beat Mohawk (51-28) in the consolation match at the Div. III regional duals on Saturday at Archbold High School. Willard second at Shaw CLEVELAND — The Crimson Flashes placed second to Canal Fulton Northwest among the five teams at the Cleveland Shaw Cardinal Duals on Saturday. For Willard, 138-pounder Luke Slone earned Most Impressive Wrestler honors at the event.
